How to get an Indian visa?

If you are a foreign national except the citizens of neighboring countries Nepal or Bhutan, you must have a visa to enter the Country. India is currently considering giving Visa on arrival to tourists /nationals from the following countries Finland, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Japan and Singapore. All other nationals are advised to obtain your visa from the country you are residing.

What Type of Visa do you need?

Tourists staying in India for less than 3 days can attain a Transit Visa.In normal cases the validity of a tourist visa is for 6 months. Countries like France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Vietnam gives the applicant a 5 yea visa. And the US citizens get a 10 year visa. The duration of the visa might vary upon the country that you are located in. Mostly the visas issued are for multiple entries. Regardless, the tourists are not permitted to stay in India for more than 6 months at a time.

How to Apply

The Indian Embassy has started outsourcing the Indian visa application process to private processing agencies in many countries to make it more efficient. In many countries Indian visa application process has been outsourced to Private agencies for example in the United States, Indian visas are issued by Travisa Outsourcing. In most other countries, VSF Global has the responsibility for issuing Indian visas, including in the United Kingdom, Australia, Thailand, China, Germany, Sri Lanka and France


When applying for an Indian Visa, you’ll need to obtain a visa application form from the Indian Embassy in your country, or complete an on-line application form on the website of one of the visa processing agencies where possible. Along with your application and fee, for an Indian Tourist Visa you’ll need to submit your passport that’s valid for at least six months and has at least two blank pages, a recent passport sized photo, and details of your itinerary. In some countries, proof of residential address may also be required. Your visa application form may have the space for Indian referees, but this section usually isn't required to be completed for tourist visas.

How to get around in India ?

India has a handful of diverse mobility to explore. Indian public transport is not the most comfortable or the fastest in the world, but it is inexpensive and gives a different experience of India. To add more colour, in some towns and cities you can find Rickshaws pulled by men, or by horse. Further you may find bullock carts in some remote villages. And Of course between desert towns you can have a camel ride. Or experience some classics such as a narrow-gauge railway, steam locomotives, the Ambassador car and the Enfield Bullet motorbike, explore what ever amuses you. For your comfort it is advisable to find a private agency for cabs or taxis which provides luxury, comfort and safety.

How to get entrance tickets to monuments?

You might need to pay an entrance fees to enter into any protected monuments. Children below age 15 are omitted from the entry fees. Cameras and videos are not permitted at some monuments. At some places you need to pay an extra fee for that. You can buy the tickets from the monument gates or from your travel agents.
