Delhi is the capital state of the country where yore co-exists with present. This place is rich in its heritage, architecture and cultural elements. The city can be seen as two epoch in one. Experience the relics of Mughal Era and distinguish the Old Delhi from the New Delhi, while you walk through the convoluted streets. Delhi has a continental temperature varies from minus 6˚c in winter to 47˚c in summer. Proposed time to visit Delhi is during September to March. Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu are the languages spoken in this area, English is also widely spoken. Delhi serves as a base to visit Agra and Rajasthan.

History

Archaeological evidences illustrate the presence of human inhabitation since the 6th century B.C. The history of Delhi begins at1450 BC when Pandavas(Mahabharata epic) made Delhi their capital city. Thereafter Delhi has witnessed the rise and falls of many Kingdom, latest by Mughal Empire (1500-1700) and then under British control during 1857-1947.

Red fort (Lal Qila) is a 33 m high sandstone wall built in 1638 and reminds as the magnificient power of Mughal Emperors. Inside the wall you will find a veritable treasure trove of buildings including the Drum House, the Hall of Public Audiences, the white marble Hall of Private Audiences, the Pearl Mosque, Royal Baths and Palace of Color.


Qutab Minar tower of victory built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak after conquering the last Hindu Kingdom.The tower is73 m height and has five distinct storeys with balconies.The first mosque (Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque) to be built in India can be seen at the foot of Qutab Minar. This mosque was built by demolishing 27 Hindu temples therefore it has a typical Hindu ornamentation.


Humayuns tomb, Jama masjid are another examples of magnificient architecture from the mughal era. The Parliament house is a cirular builing that abodes ministerial offices, numerous committee rooms and an excellent library as well.
Lotus temple or Bahais temple stands for the modern architecture built in 1986. It has the shape of a lotus flower with nine pools of water around the blooming petals and is spectacular to watch at dusk. Akshardham Temple is also famous for its tradition and ancient architecture.
